Alexander Sokht

Statement
Alexander Sokht was born (in 1967) and raised in Krasnodar on the south of Russia, near the Black See.
He studied art at the Krasnodar State University , faculty of Art.
Since that time Alexander started his professional artistic way.
At the beginning he took part in the grope exhibitions with fore young artists (from1989) in his native town Krasnodar and Sochi.
In 1991 his exhibition activity moved at Moscow : “37 Pictures”,“Russian Collection. End of 20th Century” in the M’Ars Gallery,
“48 Pictures” in the Central House of Artists , Moscow.
As a result he leaved Krasnodar and moved at Moscow in 1992 for 10 following years.
However, his first solo exhibition “LUDI” took place in Florence , Italy, International Youth center Giorgio la Pirra in 1994.
During this period Alexander Sokht participated in many Moscow’s art fairs, such as International Art Fair “ART MANEGE”1996-2003 and
International Art Fair “ ART MOSCOW” in 1999, 2004 , also in the collective and grope exhibitions with M’Ars Gallery and “Vostochnaja Gallery”.
So, was started very intensive creative period of his careеr in Moscow with every years solo exhibitions:“Fascinated Wanderer ”,M’Ars Gallery ,1995; “ Procession” , Central House of Artists, 1996; “Ad Hominem”( with Svetlana Kurmaz), Russian State Art Library ,1996;
“Two Good Ones” (with Svetlana Kurmaz) Central House of Artists, 1997; “Inhabited Objects”, “Vostochnaja Gallery”, 1998;
“Islands of Apples” (with Svetlana Kurmaz ), “A-3 Gallery”, 1999; “One- Man Show in the Central House of Artists”, 2003.
In 2000 Alexander participates in two very significant grope exhibitions in Moscow :“Area of Happiness” , Central House of Artists, and
“20 Parallels” Moscow’s Contemporary Art Museum & Sweden Embassy.
At the same time part of his experience is transferred abroad : in 1997 it is “Russian Collection in Palais des Nations”, Geneve, Switzerland;
in 1998 it is solo exhibition “Contrast” under patronage Nicolaus & Caroline Von Grundherr, Munchen, Germany.
In the 2000 it is “One- Man Show in Russian Cultural Center in Luxembourg”; and as a part of the program “Artist in Residence” unforgettable artistic experience together with Svetlana Kurmaz , under patronage of Mme Helen Michi in the “La Belle Auriole”, France.
At the same 2000 year was his first International Art Fair abroad “ EUROART 2000” in Barcelona, Spain.
Now is starting a time in his biography “ between Moscow and Europe ” which continues till 2003.
Alexander has exhibitions as in Moscow :
“ Peter Batkin & Philips , de Pury & Luxembourg” Auction of Contemporary Russian Art“, 2002-2003; Auction of Russian Art with support of CHRISTIE’s, 2004-2005;
as in Europe: collective exhibition in the “Galerie Schortgen”,2001, Luxembourg; One-Man Show in “Graf Von Westphallen Bappert & Modest, 2001, under patronage of Alexander Von Aretin, Berlin ;
One -Man Show in International Kunstatelierhause Mengerzeile, 2002, under patronage of Katherine Von Aretin & Lukardis Von Studnitz, Berlin ;
One-Man Show in ” Hay Hill Gallery“, 2002, London, UK.
Such a big activity abroad of Russia identified a decision to leave Moscow and continuer his life and artistic way in Europe.
In 2003 Alexander together with his wife Svetlana Kurmaz moved at Prague.
After one year, in 2004, they opened there” XP gallery“.
There is a gallery- studio in the center of old Prague. Fore times in a year they made there a new exposition , such as ”Works on Paper“, ”S.K.A.S.“,”PERSONNE“, ”Still Pleasure“ , ”Non Fiction“ et cet.
Besides, Alexander had ”One-Man Show“ in the ”b-Art Galerie“,2009,Vevey,Switzerland;
and was presented at the many International Art Fairs by ”XP gallery” and ”Le Siants Galerie“ :
”ART IRELAND“2007, Dublin, Ireland; ”ART EDINBURGH“2007, UK; ”EUROPART“2008, Geneve, Switzerland; AAF Paris,2008, France; AAF New York 2008, USA; LINEART 2008, Gent, Belgium; ”GLASGOW ‘09“, UK; ”NewcasteleGateshead’09”, UK; “Edinburgh’09“, UK; LINEART 2009, Gent, Belgium.
